How to help local kids without computers or internet get needed tools to learn from home

Idaho Business for Education has announced a statewide initiative called the Community Activation Project to help students continue their learning while the school buildings across Idaho are closed.

There are 19,644 Idaho students without a PC and 13,998 without internet connectivity at home.

The two goals of this project are to get devices into the hands of thousands of students who do not have them and to provide connectivity to those students who cannot access the internet at home so that all students can do online learning.

If you have laptops, PCs, monitors, keyboards, mice to spare, you can donate to this program.

How to Donate:

Cleanse your PC.

A team from HP created a cleanse and build tool that will wipe the PC and reformat it. The reformatting process installs what students need to connect, participate and learn. Please remember to include power cords!

If you’re not comfortable cleansing your PC, the teams at Kendall Ford drop-off locations are prepared to complete the cleansing process.

Drop it off at one of these locations:

Ada County:

Kendall Ford of Meridian (9 a.m. - 5 p.m., Monday-Saturday)

250 E Overland Rd, Meridian, ID 83642

Canyon County:

Kendall Idaho Center Auto Mall (9 a.m. - 5 p.m., Monday-Saturday)

15700 N Idaho Center Blvd., Nampa ID 83686

Volunteer:

If you’d like to lend a hand cleansing PC’s, please contact Alishia Jonas (Kendall Ford) at alishiajonas@kendallauto.com or (208) 409-4247.

The CAP teams are currently assessing internet access coverage by community. The next step will be identifying alternatives to get students connected.

IT at Nampa schools have relocated WiFi AP’s to better canvas parking lots. Students are parking and getting access to materials.

The CAP teams are contacting bus companies to assess the availability of WiFi already installed on busses.
